The Problematic
The student population in Guatemala is currently over 3 million. Students are distributed in 48,909 public establishments, the conditions of which are precarious and of low academic level. This results in several external factors such as:
-
Low salaries

-
Discontent in teachers

-
Teachers with substandard academic preparation

-
Precarious infrastructure

-
Total lack of furniture and didactic material in most establishments

-
Deficient health conditions

“There are 1.6 million children in Guatemala with no educational coverage.” - Ministry of Education of Guatemala

A high percentage of the population of local schools attends classes without having had breakfast, and many of them don’t have the proper school supplies, footwear, or appropriate clothing. Some of them drag family issues such as child abuse and child labor, resulting in low performance in their school day.
One of the causes of poverty in rural areas is the limited access to education for their inhabitants. Unfortunately, these groups of the population have been forsaken by the authorities in charge of ensuring education for everyone.
In 2018, over 450 thousand students did not complete the school year.

The vision of the Global Opportunity Educational Project is to develop and improve the educational establishments’ infrastructure in rural areas through the improvement, remodeling, and reconditioning of existing educational centers that operate in these precarious conditions.
We also seek to optimize them so that they can meet the educational needs of the kids. One of the program’s points of action is to support schools with essential services such as: a counselor, computer access, English and other specific tutoring, speech therapy, curricular adjustments, optional sports, and more.
